John -- Monday kicked off the one-year countdown until the 2022 midterm elections. That’s right. In less than 365 days, voters will determine who controls the U.S. House.

We set a mid-month goal of raising $36,500 by Monday at 11:59pm to ensure voters can pick politicians who accurately represent them without interference from gerrymandered maps and voter suppression.

Texas, North Carolina, Georgia, and Ohio are four states where Republicans are manipulating the redistricting process -- and, in some cases, passing voter suppression laws -- all in an effort to give their party an unfair advantage in the midterm elections.

Our team is working to pass the Freedom to Vote Act because it would ban partisan gerrymandering, protect the right to vote -- and go into effect immediately.

As President Obama has said, this bill “would strengthen our democracy by making it easier for people to vote and harder for politicians and special interests to drown out the voices of ordinary Americans.”

But we know that if gerrymandered maps and voter suppression persist, conservative politicians will be well-positioned to flip the five seats needed to gain a majority in 2022. That’s why we need to pass the Freedom to Vote Act now -- while Democrats are in charge.
