Friends —

I am working hard along with my Democratic colleagues in the Senate and President Biden to make life easier for working Americans, and that includes making sure everyone has access to quality, affordable child care.

This issue is personal to me. When my second daughter, Maile, was born in 2018, I became the first U.S. Senator to give birth while serving in office.

There were definitely bumps in the road, but I know that my journey as a parent working outside the home was easier than most. My husband and I had help and were blessed to be able to afford child care, something that most Americans don’t have. As I work to make these resources available for everyone, I want to hear your story, John:

Please take a minute to share your child care story. I would love to hear how our country’s care crisis has impacted your family, and how access to affordable child care would have changed your life for the better.

For too many American parents, lack of access to child care can mean frantic nights of calling up parents and siblings for last-minute babysitting. It can mean giving up the opportunity to go back to school. For some, it means dropping out of the workforce entirely. That’s completely unacceptable.

As a mom who works outside of the home, and as a Senator, it’s my promise to you that I will continue working to pass federal legislation that gives every parent access to quality, affordable child care.

Thank you for reading. And before you go, please take a minute to share your child care story using this link. Hearing your experiences is incredibly important to me, and to my team.

All my best,

Tammy Duckworth
