There’s a lot happening right now, so I wanted to take a step back and share how I’m thinking about the opportunities and challenges of this moment:
First, the good news: We won our campaign to bring progressive values to the office of the Comptroller last week, and I couldn’t be more excited to be taking citywide office alongside a new City Council cohort that is more progressive and more diverse than ever before. Meanwhile in Washington, Congress passed a historic infrastructure bill that will bring $170 billion to New York to update our transit, airport, rail, highway, and water systems.
Next, the uphill battles ahead: Last week’s election showed that the anxiety and fear we all have in these uncertain times is fueling a surge on the Right. The attacks on voting rights, reproductive autonomy, gun safety, and the bold action we need to confront climate change are growing. In Congress, the fight to pass the social and climate policy investments in the Build Back Better agenda continues and we have to keep the pressure up. Investments in preschool, child and home care, lower drug prices, clean energy and climate resilience are critical infrastructure for a healthier future for all of us.
Where we go from here: We have a lot to do to build a city (and a country) that can tackle the extraordinary set of challenges facing us in ways that lift up ALL of our communities. But I am confident that by organizing together to confront injustice, build progressive power, and deliver material benefits to improve the lives of our neighbors, we can win the multiracial democracy we need for a better future. My transition team and I are committed to working every day towards that future. Want to read more about my transition team? Check out the full details here. [[link removed]] [[link removed]]

I’m honored to serve as NYC’s next Comptroller and eager to bring our organizing for a better New York to the next level. Stay tuned for more soon on how our transition team is getting started and how we’re thinking about the opportunities and challenges facing our shared city.
With gratitude,
Brad
