It’s time to cut off the fossil fuel industry.  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

This is absurd, John.

A new report found that the fossil fuel industry has 503 lobbyists at the COP26 climate summit. If the fossil fuel lobby were a country delegation at COP, it would be the largest with two dozen more representatives than the largest country delegation.1

Here’s the thing, John. With unlimited sums of money, the fossil fuel industry will continue to build pipelines, buy off politicians, and weasel their way into climate conferences. That’s why we’re working around the clock to cut 👏 off 👏 the 👏 flow 👏 of 👏 money.

Last week, Senators Ed Markey and Jeff Merkley introduced the Senate version of the Fossil Free Finance Act, which would require the Federal Reserve to ban the financing of any fossil fuel projects or activities, effectively cutting off the flow of funds from big banks to fossil fuel companies.

We need your help, John, to get your senators to co-sponsor this bill. Will you send a message to Sens. Bob Casey and Pat Toomey right now urging them to co-sponsor the Fossil Free Finance Act?

Reps. Mondaire Jones, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley introduced the House version of the bill in September with 21 co-sponsors.

Under this legislation, big banks would be required to align their financing with science-based emission targets and our obligations under the Paris Climate Agreement. In 2021 — during a moment of unprecedented climate disaster — this legislation should not be controversial. But thanks to fossil fuel lobbyists, we need to mobilize our movement to make sure this legislation gets passed.

While we continue to pressure President Biden to nominate a new climate champion as Federal Reserve Chair, this bill is a huge opportunity to finally change how the financial sector invests in fossil fuels and turn the tides for our climate.

Every senator who claims to be a champion for climate action must sign on to this bill. Can you send a message to Sens. Bob Casey and Pat Toomey urging them to sign on to the Fossil Free Finance Act?

If this bill passes, big banks would not be allowed to finance:

With your help, we know we can double or triple the amount of co-sponsors on this bill by next week and send a clear message to the lobbyists at COP26 that their days are numbered.

Thank you for sending a letter.
