Friend,
Right now, more than three million people in northern Syria are experiencing an acute water crisis, and funding gaps are increasing the challenges for Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams and other humanitarian groups.
In northwest Syria, we’re seeing a troubling uptick in cases of waterborne diseases, as the lack of access to clean water has forced people to take desperate measures that can put their health at risk. The evidence is absolutely clear, Friend:
In response to the water crisis in Syria, MSF teams have mobilized to provide a variety of services, including distributing hygiene kits, trucking in and treating water, and collecting waste. We are now running water and sanitation services in about 90 camps in northwest Syria, reaching around 30,000 displaced people.
But amid substantial decreases in funding for water and sanitation activities, MSF and other humanitarian organizations are struggling to meet the growing demand for care.
This email was sent from the U.S. section of Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), an international independent medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural and man-made disasters, and exclusion from health care.
