Dear John
“When it comes to climate, time really is running out…We have not done nearly enough to address this crisis.”
Those were the words of Barack Obama, speaking earlier this week at COP26 – on a day dedicated to the damage caused by a growing number of wildfires, droughts, and other climate-related disasters.
UK officials applauded his speech. And yet the UK government is still pledging £750 million of public money to back a mega gas project in Mozambique. It still wants a new oil field to be opened in the North Sea and it supports oil wells in Surrey.
We’re not going to let it get away with this hypocrisy without a fight. But your support is urgently needed to make it happen. With your help we can:
- Take the government to court this December over the climate-wrecking Mozambique gas project.
- Provide expert support and advice to the passionate local campaigners in Surrey.
- Campaign alongside Friends of the Earth Scotland to put the media spotlight on the reckless support for a new North Sea oil field.
Will you make a one-off donation today to help us fight back? Together we can stop these dangerous plans.

"We can’t afford hopelessness – instead we are going to have to muster the will and the passion and the activism of citizens pushing governments, companies, and everyone else to meet this challenge." – Barack Obama.
This year has had some of the most extreme weather we’ve ever seen. Whether you experienced its frightening impacts first-hand, or witnessed it on your screens, the evidence is impossible to ignore or deny.
Right now, here in Glasgow, the coal, oil, and gas industries have the most delegates at the climate summit. Make no mistake about it – there are people here trying to put the brakes on climate action.
We’re up against powerful people with deep pockets.
But this weekend’s Global Day of Action showed that there are many more of us. And we have a winning track record here in the UK.
Just a couple of years ago the government wanted the fracking industry to take hold across the country, but together we stopped it.
With you by our side we believe that the fossil fuel industry can be stopped, despite the government’s attempts to keep it alive.
But we won’t succeed without the ongoing support of people like you. So if you can, please help us by making a one-off donation today.

I hope you found the analysis I sent on Friday interesting. I’ll be back in touch once the climate talks have finished here in Glasgow.
Best wishes,
