Waste collections ??
litter
*Many will be aware about the current pressure with driver shortages and illness in the Council’s waste collection teams, and the inconvenience this can cause for residents who have their bins missed.*
The Council remains committed to ensure that if a round is missed on the appointed day, that it will be collected on the following Saturday or as soon as possible.
We know how frustrating the problems have been for residents in Bulwell and we thank you for being so patient and understanding for the difficult situation waste teams in Nottingham and the whole country have been experiencing.

Woodworking, tea and plenty of bad jokes!
men shed
*Yes, of course…it’s got to be Bulwell Men’s Shed!*
Over the past two years Bulwell Men’s Shed has gone from a two hour session on a Monday at Bulwell Forest Community Garden on Monday afternoon (which it still does) to also meeting all day at St Mary’s Church, Highbury Road, on Tuesdays.
*The group provides an opportunity for local men to get involved in activities and enjoy social time together – according to the guys themselves, the tea and chat is accompanied by a plentiful supply of bad jokes!*
*Some really lovely articles are being made by skilled carpenters who attend the Men’s Shed, including nesting boxes, bird tables, butterfly houses, planters, shelves, bookcases and bookends. Another member of the group did a beautiful restoration job on an antique mirror. But you can choose your activity. It’s a cheerful, no pressure place.*
Bulwell Men’s Shed was set up two years ago when Councillor Jane Lakey realised that there was little provision just for men. She teamed up with Steve Lack, Rebalancing’s Public Health Officer, who took the proposal ahead and who, with funding from both Bulwell and Bulwell Forest Councillors, made the idea real.
A friendly place to go, where there are things to do but no pressure, is a real plus for feeling good and staying fit. The gentlemen of Bulwell Men’s Shed are always happy to welcome new men to the group – why not give it a go?
*Bulwell Men’s Shed meets on Tuesdays from 10am – 3.00pm at St Mary’s Church, Highbury Road, Bulwell **NG6 9AD*

Zumba in Bulwell with Councillor Maria Joannou
zumba
*The community of Bulwell was brought together during the lockdown summer by Zumba!*
Exercise with friends, family and neighbours proved to be a great way of lifting spirits, bringing people together and improving health outcomes, so we expanded these sessions to Newmarket and Crabtree, during the school summer holidays. People of all ages joined in, with children’s games and African drumming as well!
As a Councillor for our ward, Maria Joannou is committed to building stronger more connected communities. These Zumba sessions have helped bring together Newmarket and Crabtree, allowing residents to address issues which affect both areas, such as fly tipping and littering.
With the involvement of Charmaine Daley, Zumba instructor and This Girl Can, Nottingham City Council, we have now set up exercise classes to run on a regular basis to encourage members of the community to attend. This has been a very ambitious project, and has involved eighteen months of hard work and commitment from all those involved in setting up all these sessions. This is important work, as people in Bulwell have some of the poorest health of anyone in Nottingham City.
*There are a huge variety of sessions for all age groups; such as *
* Monday - Family Circuits at 12.30pm at Snapewood Community Centre - £5 kids free
* Monday - Zumba at 7pm at Crabtree Community Centre - £4
* Tuesday - Walking at 11am at Bulwell Riverside - Free
* Tuesday - Core at 6pm at Healthy Living Centre - £5
* Tuesday - Boxfit at 7pm at Healthy Living Centre - £5
* Tuesday - Boxercise at 7pm at Crabtree Community Centre - £5
* Wednesday - Walking Netball at 10am at Mellish Sports Centre - £3.50
* Thursday - Zumba at 6pm at Healthy Living Centre - £4

christmas
Don't get caught out this Christmas
Nottingham City Council’s Trading Standards team are asking Nottingham residents to be careful when buying presents for children:
* *Look for the CE or UKCA mark:* These symbols on the label or box mean the manufacturer has assessed the toy for safety
* *Button-batteries can kill:* Check they are screwed in firmly and safely before giving to a child
* *Check age restrictions:* Toys must be clearly marked with age restrictions - always follow them, they’re there for a reason
