Yesterday, The Intercept reported that Cheri Bustos, chair of the DCCC, is trying to pressure House Democrats to approve Trump’s renegotiated NAFTA deal, without adding a single demand made by unions or environmental groups.

Cheri Bustos even said that labor unions and progressive members of Congress will just have to “get over it.” Democrats are the House Majority, we have power. And yet, Bustos is choosing not to use it.

John: if you agree that progressives shouldn’t just “get over it” make a contribution right now to send the message to Cheri Bustos that Justice Democrats won’t back down.

Here’s the thing: incumbent Democrats told Bustos that they would like to vote for Trump’s trade deal but they are afraid of getting primaried. That’s how powerful our movement has become. We’re shifting the balance of power in the party by using primaries to create accountability and consequences for their actions.

And there’s more: Joe Crowley, the entrenched Democrat defeated by AOC, is now a paid lobbyist in favor of the renegotiated NAFTA deal. The revolving door in Washington must come to an end. It’s unhealthy for our democracy and only reinforces corruption and cronyism.

Bustos shouldn’t be kneeling to Trump and compromising Democratic values. Democrats should be the party of voters, not corporate donors.

This is why we need more Justice Democrats in Congress like Jessica Cisneros who is already taking on Henry Cuellar’s vocal support for NAFTA 2.0. Trade agreements should strengthen unions and lift up all of our communities, not be a global race to the bottom.
