The October NEWsflash
Friend,

Welcome back to the October edition of The NEWsflash, a collection of incredible stories and events that happened in Northeast Wisconsin during this past month. From meeting with local stakeholders to discuss ways to improve our environment to hosting a roundtable with the President of Microsoft to have a conversation about Northeast Wisconsin's cyber workforce, October was a busy month in Wisconsin's Eighth Congressional District.

I've included some photos and highlights from a few of the events my team and I were able to attend. You can also find information on how my office can help you with any federal problem you may have. As always, please don't hesitate to contact my office if we can ever be of assistance.

Semper Fi,
New Horizons in Cyber: At the beginning of October, my team and I hosted a roundtable at TitleTown Tech with Microsoft President Brad Smith that focused on ways we can strengthen Wisconsin's cyber workforce. It was a great conversation with local technology and education leaders who are doing important work to increase education opportunities and train the workforce of tomorrow.
Getting Ready For Winter: It's hard to believe, but it's already time to prepare for winter. That's why my team recently went to an open house hosted by Salt-wise in De Pere to discuss snow and ice removal practices. At the event, Salt-wise showcased their equipment and discussed a number of ways to keep roads and sidewalks safe.
A Salute to Company C: This month a member of my team helped recognize the bravery of those in Company C, 1st Marines, 7th Marine Regiment by attending a ceremony unveiling a memorial for these marines. The memorial was created by Michael Vizer, who served in the Marines from 1989 to 1993 and wanted to honor those who served in his company from WWII until the present.
Expanding in NEW: Late this month, Coalesce Marketing and Design opened its doors at a new location in Appleton. Coalesce has been serving the people of Northeast Wisconsin with a mixed marketing approach for 17 years and has received numerous awards including the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce Rising Star Award and the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce Exemplary Marketing Performance Award. It's great to see companies like this expand in NEW.
A Conservation Conversation: My team was able to join a conversation on regenerative farm practices at Kinnard Farms in late October. When these practices were implemented, the field's soil increased in organic matter from 1.4% to 2.5% in just a few years. These Conservation Conversations are held monthly and sponsored by Peninsula Pride Farms and the Door-Kewaunee Demonstration Farms Network.
Friends of Plum and Pilot: The Friends of Plum and Pilot Islands (FOPPI) held their board meeting at the 1896 Life Saving Station on Plum Island to go over their 2022 project initiatives. The group's mission is to support the preservation, restoration, maintenance, and use of the historic resources on the Islands, and to conserve and protect wildlife resources. The group does great work to preserve the Plum and Pilot Islands for generations to come.
In Case of Emergency: This month I attended the dedication of the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Training Center facility put together by Appleton International Airport (ATW) and the Fox Valley Technical College. The facility is one-of-a-kind and will draw firefighters from around the world to train. It was amazing to see the innovative thinking that brought this project together, and I can't wait to see its impact on our community.
Honoring a Legend: On October 23, the former Walnut Street Bridge was renamed the Bart Starr Memorial Bridge as a way to pay tribute to the Packers legend. It's a well-deserved recognition and will serve as a constant reminder of Bart and Cherry Starr's impact on Northeast Wisconsin -- both on and off the field. Go Pack Go!
Protecting WI Waters: A member of my team attended Clean Bay Backers' 8th annual tour to update elected officials and stakeholders on work being done to restore Lake Sturgeon habitats near the De Pere dam and monitor harmful Algal Blooms. The group emphasized how much of the restoration work underway in the Lower Fox River is made possible by Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) grants, which I've been proud to support in Congress. We're lucky to have so many people committed to keeping NEW's waters clean..
