ADHRB Congressional Event on Women Political Prisoners in Bahrain

On 29 October 2019, Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) held a Congressional briefing examining the plight of female political prisoners in Bahrain, in particular nine female political prisoners covered in our recently released report, “Breaking the Silence: Bahraini women political prisoners expose systemic abuses.” Monica Zuraw of ADHRB moderated the panel. Bridget Quitter of ADHRB, Joe Stork of Human Rights Watch, Shadi Mokhtari Assistant Professor at American University, and Philippe Nassif of Amnesty International delivered remarks.

ADHRB submits a report on Kuwait’s fidelity to the Convention on the Rights of the Child

In early July 2019, Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) submitted a report to the Committee on the Rights of the Child ahead of Kuwait’s review under the Convention on the Rights of the Child. In particular, the report examined violations against members of Kuwait’s stateless population, the bidoon, including violations of the right to healthcare, right to nationality, and right to education. Overall, ADHRB found that Kuwait has not fulfilled its obligations to all of its residents, leaving bidoon children at risk of further violations and without recourse in the event of such violations.
