Hello -
Late last week, the House passed the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, delivering on promises we made on the campaign trail. This is the largest infrastructure investment in the last century.
This will help us build and repair bridges. It will help fix our potholes and improve our water system. And it will finally help deliver broadband to all Vermonters. All while adding jobs to communities across the country.
There are two specific pieces I want to highlight. The first is an investment in Vermont’s electric vehicle charging network. Vermont will receive $21 million to expand Vermont's electric vehicle charging network to our cities and towns over five years, helping make our transportation sector greener and more sustainable.
The second is an investment that we have been working on for over a decade: expanding affordable broadband access across Vermont. Vermont will receive at least $100 million to deploy affordable broadband throughout the state. And eligible Vermonters will receive a $30 per month credit to help pay for high-speed internet service.
Without affordable broadband, our rural communities will be left behind. We’ve been talking about closing the digital divide for too long. This bill will finally help us get it done. Broadband is no longer a luxury. It is essential to the well-being of our communities.
None of this would have been possible without the support of and work by people like you. Thank you for standing up and speaking out about the issues that matter most to you — because of you, we were able to deliver real progress for Vermonters and Americans.
We delivered together — and our communities will be better off for it.
Thank you,
Peter
