Will Connecticut Watch Lamont Wring Every Last Ounce of Benefit Out Of Connecticut?
Governor Ned Lamont filed his paperwork ([link removed]) late yesterday with the State Elections Enforcement Commission officially beginning his campaign for re-election. Connecticut Republican Party Chair Ben Proto offered the following comments:
"Governor Ned Lamont's decision to seek reelection comes as no surprise. Why wouldn't he seek reelection? Unfortunately, he has oftentimes used the office of Governor for his personal and familial financial gain while enjoying complete, unfettered and almost dictatorial control of the state and its government.
"It is clear that our ultra-partisan Democrat Majorities will do nothing to hold Governor Lamont accountable - in fact they actively enable his misguided rule, abdicating their role as a co-equal branch of government.
"Ned Lamont & Connecticut Democrats must be held accountable at the ballot box next year.
"While the challenges of managing our state through the pandemic were many, there was no reason to allow one person to be the sole policy maker for two years. He took the emergency powers to such an extreme that our economy and education systems will take years to recover. As his tentacles wound around matters beyond the scope of public health, he failed to protect our most vulnerable seniors in group homes from COVID by allowing COVID positive patients to recover in the homes. While he was imposing restrictions and mandates upon the people of Connecticut, Governor Lamont was issuing no bid COVID testing contracts to a company in which his wife had a financial interest. Just like his pal Andrew Cuomo, Ned was one of the worst governors on COVID.
"Governor Lamont and Democrats must also be held accountable for the crime crisis that has enveloped Connecticut. Their pro-criminal, anti-police policies are to blame.
"Finally, Connecticut's economy is still notably one of the worst in the nation. Our tax burden is second highest in the country, along with debt per capita. We have less jobs than we did in 2008 and sit in the national top five for highest unemployment. Many small businesses have shuttered and working class and middle-class people are still out of work.
Meanwhile Democrats dream up new ways to tax us out of the state - like the TCI gas tax and tolls. These taxes will not lessen our financial woes.
"The madness must end and the Connecticut Comeback must start in 2022. It must begin by electing new, common-sense Republican leadership at every level. Connecticut's future depends on it."
