Hey John -
Last Tuesday did not pan out the way we wanted it to at the state level. There are many lessons to take away from this election and hopefully this will serve as a wake up call to help prepare us for midterms next year. However, it is important to acknowledge the hard work that went on this election season. AYDs collectively made about 3,800 voter contacts, Arlington successfully re-elected Takis Karantonis to the County Board, Mary Kadera was elected to School Board, Elizabeth Bennett-Parker was newly elected to the Virginia House of Delegates, and Alfonso Lopez, Rip Sullivan, and Patrick Hope all kept their seats in the Virginia House of Delegates.
There is still more work to be done, but for now it is important to take time to rest, re-energize, and reorganize.
Speaking of reorganizing, it is time once again for AYD Executive Board Elections! Come out tonight at 7pm to Highline RxR over in Crystal City to learn more about who’s running for an elected position or even about running yourself! The actual election will take place on Wednesday, November 17th at 7pm at the Gables Pointe 14 apartment building over in Courthouse. Remember that you must be a dues paying member in order to run for a position and to vote in the election. You can pay your dues here.
If you have any questions about dues, please email AYD Membership Director Annie Styles at [email protected].

Let's Get Vaccinated, Virginia!
Certain groups are now eligible for a COVID-19 booster. For individuals who received the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and if it’s been 6 months or more since their last shot.
We recommend these groups receive a booster this fall:
In addition, these groups may also benefit from a booster this fall:
For individuals who received a Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, booster shots are recommended for those who are 18 and older and who were vaccinated two or more months ago.
Eligible individuals may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster dose. Some people may have a preference for the vaccine type that they originally received and others may prefer to get a different booster.
Talk with your health care provider to see if a booster is right for you.
