Dear Friend,

We just turned another corner bringing us that much closer to ending the coronavirus pandemic. But we still need your help!

After months of rigorous and independent scientific review, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recommended the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 through 11. That means children 5-11 years of age can now receive a formulation of the Pfizer vaccine which contains one-third of the dose that teens and adults receive. With around 10 percent of all U.S. COVID-19 cases currently found in children, this authorization is an important step towards defeating this virus. The Biden administration has already secured enough vaccine supply for every child in America ages 5 through 11, so all we need is for you to take advantage!

The vaccines have been proven to be safe and effective at reducing the spread of coronavirus and making it less likely you’ll be hospitalized or experience severe symptoms if you do become ill. And so I encourage you to get your children vaccinated as soon as possible to protect themselves, to protect your family, to stop the spread, and to help us beat this pandemic.

Additionally, tens of millions of Americans are eligible for the enhanced protection of either a Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson booster shot. This is especially important for our seniors who are most vulnerable to getting severely ill from COVID-19 and who need this extra layer of protection. Every fully-vaccinated senior who received their first shot before May 1st is now eligible for their booster, no matter which vaccine they received.

LA County is accepting walk-ins at all County-run mass vaccination sites. No appointments are needed, and they will be open to anyone 5 years or older living or working in LA County. For all minors aged 5-17, a consent form signed by a parent or legal guardian is required for both visits. All 5-15 year-olds must be accompanied by their parent, legal guardian, or a responsible adult. All 16 and 17-year-olds should be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian if possible. Please bring a photo ID and proof of living or working in LA County. You will never be asked of your immigration status when you get a vaccine. Depending on where you live, please visit the public health department websites for LA County, Pasadena, or San Bernardino County for more information on your vaccine eligibility and to find a vaccine site near you. And please feel free to call my office in Pasadena with any questions at (626) 304-0110.

Sincerely,
