The 2020 National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement (NSLVE) reports are out, and the results are definitive. When we invest in youth voter registration and engagement, young people turn out at the same rates or higher than the general population. That's why this fall, following the historic turnout of young people in the 2020 election, we've continued to recruit, train, and engage young people in local and state elections across the country.
I wanted to invite you to a special event where you can get a first-hand look into the data on what drove youth voter turnout in 2020 and give you a quick update on our work keeping students engaged this year.

** You're Invited: Deep Dive into 2020 Campus Voting Data

NSLVE, conducted by the Institute for Democracy and Higher Education at Tufts University, allows campuses to see detailed information on campus voter registration and turnout rates from 2020. For example, 58% and 60% of engineering and business students voted (respectively), compared to 71% of Education and Library Science students. Each campus's NSLVE report gives student leaders, campus staff and administrators important local data to learn from for the 2022 elections. Join our webinar to learn about how campus and state leaders can use their NSLVE data ([link removed]) to make effective civic engagement plans for 2022.

In 2020, young people on college and university campuses turned out at the same rate as the general population (66%), and on many of the campuses where the Student PIRGs organized, students turned out at even higher rates. Join us on Thursday, November 18th as we delve into NSLVE data from the 2020 election, and discuss with civic engagement experts and campus partners what worked and what didn’t when it came to engaging young people during the 2020 election—and how campuses can prepare for 2022.

** Highlights from Election Week
------------------------------------------------------------
Our goal is to make college campuses hubs of non-partisan civic engagement, helping every campus with a PIRG club or chapter implement the best practices that can really transform how young people participate and interact with our democracy.
Leading up to elections last week in Virginia, New Jersey, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts, our team continued engaging students--making sure they were registered to vote and had a plan to cast their ballot. Students organized virtual and in-person phonebanks (including a costume-and-calling party on Halloween), organized events on campus, and presented in front of classrooms to spread the word about upcoming elections. Since the start of fall terms, our team of student leaders and professional staff:
* Trained 1,650 volunteers
* Made 14,147 peer-to-peer GOTV contacts
* Educated 80,304 students about the election
** About The Student PIRGs' New Voters Project

PIRG New Voters Project, Inc. is a non-partisan, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with 4945(f) status. We work on 100 campuses across the country to activate the largest voting bloc in the country. Young people continue to be underrepresented in our democracy, so we work to make sure every student has the opportunity to have their voice heard in our elections by building a culture of civic engagement on college campuses. We engage students, faculty, and administrators to build lasting systems of voter engagement for the long term.
Since 1984, our field-based, non-partisan effort helped to register over 2 million young people and make over 3 million Get out the Vote contacts reminding young people where, when, and how to vote. We have tested new field models to ensure we are running the most effective civic engagement program possible. One study of our program showed that 76.3 percent of the voters we helped to register turned out to the polls, among the highest rates of all non-partisan voter registration efforts. 68.8 percent of voters we helped to register were brand-new registrants, making the project one of the most effective ways to bring new voters into the electoral process.

Our program spans over 100 campuses in 22 states of which 35 campuses have self-funding programs, that provide the training, professional support and resources students need to tackle climate change, protect public health, revitalize our democracy, feed the hungry and more.
