Bells Lane Community Centre to re-open

nursery

Tick Tock nursery at Six Ways to open a branch in the Bells Lane Community Centre with the help of local Councillors

Since lockdown, the Bell’s Lane Community Centre has been closed. We would like to thank all those volunteers who in the past have dedicated hours and in some cases, years of their lives supporting the Centre and the community around it.

We wish them all the best for the future. As Councillors, we have been working hard to start activity up again. Tick Tock Nursery, which has had such success in Broxtowe, will be taking over the nursery from September.

There will also be a new Committee and management to begin opening up the Centre, putting on events and providing services in the next few months. Startup costs will be coming from the Councillors’ local budgets.

Cleaning up our Community

litter

During the summer, because of Covid isolation and an increase in fly-tipping, every council in the U.K. was struggling with keeping up household waste collections.

Some even suspended green and recycling waste collection. Nottingham managed, just about, to keep most of its services going. This took staff away from street cleaning so your local Councillors were out litter picking on Friday afternoons.

But ours was only a small contribution. In Aspley, Broxtowe and Bell’s Lane there are over 30 volunteers helping keep their streets or closes clean who are part of the Council’s Clean Champions Scheme. Champion of all champions is Susan Marong and her children (pictured) who have collected over 400 bags of rubbish on the Broxtowe Estate.

Many, many thanks Susan and children and all our Clean Champions - you are amazing!

If you want to join the Clean Champions click here or phone 0115 8765079

And wouldn't would be rather nice if people respected their community and didn’t drop litter in the first place!

Are you affected by the Universal Credit £20 cut?

The £20 uplift to Universal Credit introduced earlier in the year has now been cut. We know that it will impact on many of our families, and that children particularly will be harder hit because of the pandemic, this is despite the massive dedicated efforts of parents and carers.

If you have concerns about how this will affect you and your family, or you have been forced into debt due to the changes to Universal Credit, please contact Welfare Rights for advice and support

Christmas arrives in Aspley

Christmas Lights Switch on: Save the date!

This year we hope to hold a Christmas Tree Switch On event at Melbourne Road, adjacent to Aspley Lane, at 5pm on Tuesday 30 November with fun and activities on Melbourne Park from 5.30pm until 8pm.

However, events are being planned with caution due to continuing concerns about coronavirus. Public Health officials are monitoring the number of cases in Nottingham and assessing the risks of holding large events.

If the event does go ahead, it will be posted on the MyAspley Facebook Page, so please check here for the latest news.

Don't get caught out this Christmas

Nottingham City Council’s Trading Standards team are asking Nottingham residents to be careful when buying presents for children:

  • Look for the CE or UKCA mark: These symbols on the label or box mean the manufacturer has assessed the toy for safety
  • Button-batteries can kill:  Check they are screwed in firmly and safely before giving to a child
  • Check age restrictions: Toys must be clearly marked with age restrictions - always follow them, they’re there for a reason

⚠️ Scam warning ⚠️

Warning – criminals are using the NHS Covid Pass and pretending to be the NHS as a way to target the public by convincing them to hand over money, financial details and personal information.

For information on how to get your free NHS COVID Pass, visit www.nhs.uk/nhscovidpass.

On scams generally - remember, if a deal looks too good to be true, it probably is. These include festive getaways at very low prices and ‘easy’ ways to make money, like cryptocurrency and investments. Take a moment to check Citizens Advice’s Online Scams Helper to protect yourself.
