After two years of max screen time, it takes something truly uplifting to get me to open my laptop or phone after hours. I’ll catch up with friends and family over Zoom. I’ll meticulously plan out my next trip using apps like Citymapper. And I’ll eagerly tune in to Poynter’s online Celebration of Journalism.
This is our biggest fundraising event of the year, and it’s all happening tomorrow night. We’ll gather virtually to take stock of the year in the news, celebrate powerful moments in journalism, and get the scoop from our honoree, CBS News’ Lesley Stahl.
I hope you can join us. After all, it’s your work we’re celebrating, our shared mission we’re supporting. To facts, to the free press, and to democracy! 🥂

Trans in Sport
Webinar: Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. Eastern
During the 2021 legislative session, seven states passed laws that restrict transgender athletes’ ability to participate on sports teams that match their gender identity; dozens more states introduced similar bills in 2021 that didn’t pass.
At the center of public — and often vitriolic — debate around such laws are kids, families, athletic clubs and schools. This webinar, featuring award-winning ESPN reporter , will teach journalists how to thoughtfully, accurately and ethically report stories about gender and sports on the local level.
