Mike Bloomberg Gathers City Leaders to Build More Vibrant Cities

Mike Bloomberg joined city leaders from around the world at CityLab, the preeminent summit on global cities organized by The Aspen Institute, The Atlantic, and Bloomberg Philanthropies. Now in its seventh year, the 2019 event in Washington, D.C. brought together 44 mayors, 100 chief innovation officers, and other government officials to explore challenges facing global urban centers through a series of panel discussions, keynotes, workshops, and field trips. Leaders in local government, arts and culture, business, and technology shared ways in which cities are integrating innovative approaches to tackle these challenges and improve the lives of residents -- and how they can learn from one another.

Bloomberg Philanthropies Launches Asphalt Art Initiative, Providing Cities With How-To Guidance & Grants to Transform Streets and Public Spaces with Artwork

Bloomberg Philanthropies announced the launch of the Asphalt Art Initiative, which will assist cities looking to use art and design to improve street safety, revitalize public spaces, and engage their communities. The initiative includes the publication of the Asphalt Art Guide, featuring case studies and best practices from cities around the world, as well as a grants program awarding 10 small and mid-sized U.S. cities up to $25,000 to implement their own transformative projects.

Bloomberg Philanthropies and OECD Map Innovation Investments in Cities Worldwide 

Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) released a new report and interactive map that demonstrate the surge of cities' commitment to local innovation and how these investments can improve outcomes for residents and strengthen communities.

Representatives from Flint, Michigan, Plymouth, United Kingdom, and San Francisco, California accepted the 2019 Engaged Cities Award at CityLab D.C. 
Cities of Service announced the three winners of the 2019 Engaged Cities Award: Flint, Michigan; Plymouth, United Kingdom; and San Francisco, California. Underwritten by Bloomberg Philanthropies, the award recognizes cutting-edge techniques to engage residents to solve problems.
