Stacey Abrams is a long-time champion of voting rights and political
change.

[ [link removed] ]Speech

In 2006, Stacey ran for the Georgia legislature and eventually rose to
lead her fellow Democrats in the State House.

In 2018, she made history during her campaign for Governor of Georgia,
when she came within 3% of winning. However, she lost to Jack Kemp, who at
the time was Georgia's Secretary of State and had overseen the purging of
over 670,000 voter registrations, largely belonging to voters of color and
Democrats.

It was a tough loss under unfair circumstances. But Stacey doesn’t wallow.
A few months after the election she started her voting rights advocacy
organization, Fair Fight Action, and over the next two years increased the
number of registered voters in Georgia by 800,000.

When Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff won in the runoff elections of 2021,
it was in large part thanks to the groundwork Abrams and her colleagues
had built for years in Georgia.

The right to vote has never been more important, John.
Republicans in Georgia and across the country are moving to disenfranchise
large numbers of voters and delegitimize elections in the media.
