A week ago today, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments on Texas' draconian six-week abortion ban. Texans have been living under the effects of the six-week abortion ban for two months already.

Texas providers and patients got their day in Court, but we can't rely on the conservative-leaning Court to defend our reproductive freedoms. In fact, if the Supreme Court decides to overturn Roe v. Wade in the near future, abortion will become illegal in 26 states overnight.

That's why this year I was an original co-sponsor of the Women's Health Protection Act. This necessary and overdue legislation will provide federal protections for abortion access and reproductive freedom. Texas' restriction isn't the exception. 2021 is shaping up to be one of the most devastating anti-abortion state legislative sessions in decades.

Already, state legislatures have introduced over 560 restrictions -- including here in Pennsylvania. This is terrifying, and it should have never gotten this far.

Even one proposed law that threatens Roe v. Wade is a grave injustice. I'm proud House Democrats have taken the steps necessary to defend every person's reproductive freedom. We need the Senate to do the same.
