I want to share with you another major legal victory we earned for LGBTQ+ rights.

Washington’s legislature banned the practice of conversion therapy for 55 minors so far. Conversion therapy is a regime that tries to change an individual’s sexual orientation. It premises that there is something wrong with being gay.

Conversion therapy can cause serious damage to the psychological well-being of gay and transgender youth. Research concludes that it is not just ineffective but dangerous to minors. Washington’s law passed with strong bipartisan support.

Opponents filed a lawsuit to block Washington’s ban on conversion therapy for minors — and my office stood up to defend this important progressive reform.

We won. A federal judge in Tacoma rejected the legal challenge and we successfully upheld the ban.

But conversion therapy is still an accepted practice in many states across the nation.

This must change.
