Big news, folks: Congress has now passed the historic bipartisan infrastructure package and sent it to President Biden’s desk. This bill will bring $3.7 billion in formula funding to New Mexico, plus the opportunity to compete for much more. It is a huge deal. And it’s on top of the over $9 billion we’ve already brought into New Mexico through Democrats' American Rescue Plan, which made historic investments in child care, education, and Tribal programs, and cut child poverty in half. And our work isn’t done yet. We are ready to build on this incredible progress by passing the Build Back Better Act to lower your household costs, create jobs, and cut taxes — all while tackling the climate crisis. I’m ready to get this next bill passed and keep putting this historic funding straight to work for New Mexico and our country. There’s no overstating what a huge impact the American Rescue Plan and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will have on New Mexico and our country. The American Rescue Plan made the largest investments ever in transformative programs that are already impacting people for the better. We brought the largest expansion in access to affordable health care since the Affordable Care Act and drastically reduced child poverty with the expanded Child Tax Credit. We also cut taxes by tripling the maximum Earned Income Tax Credit and raising the income cap. Now, through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, we’re going to make the biggest investments ever in public transit, clean drinking water, clean energy transmission, and the electric grid. Not to mention the largest investment in passenger rail since Amtrak. We’ve made huge strides. Now it’s time to pass the Build Back Better Act and make the largest investments in climate action in U.S. history — which include language from my legislation to give household rebates for purchasing and installing electric appliances and equipment, and will establish a Civilian Climate Corps. Combined with the infrastructure bill, the Build Back Better Act will add an average of 1.5 million jobs each year for the next decade.
