Hello —
Last year, millions of people made their voices heard and sent President Biden to the White House and Democratic majorities to Congress.
We ran on a promise to find common ground and work across party lines to build back better for America’s working families. And late on Friday night, Congress did just that by passing the historic bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
For far too long, our nation’s infrastructure needs have been denied and ignored.
Here in Wisconsin, more than 1,949 miles of state highway and 979 bridges are in poor condition and in need of rebuilding.
More than 100 cities, towns and villages in our state still have lead laterals that need to be replaced in order to bring clean drinking water to all Wisconsin families.
And far too many families, small businesses, and farmers across rural Wisconsin do not have affordable access to reliable, high-speed broadband service.
Not anymore.
After months of negotiations, we passed the bipartisan infrastructure package through Congress — delivering the progress that Wisconsin families voted for and have been waiting on.
This legislation will make a once-in-a-generation investment putting people to work modernizing our infrastructure. It involves rebuilding our roads and bridges, building clean water infrastructure, making high-speed broadband available to everyone in Wisconsin, and taking a big step forward in creating clean energy jobs and a renewable energy economy that takes on the climate crisis.
This legislation will help build a stronger economy and make a real difference in the lives of Wisconsin families, and that should be celebrated. But we still have a heck of a fight ahead of us to fulfill our promise to America’s working families — our work is just getting started.
We need to pass the Build Back Better budget resolution and expand affordable health care, take on the climate crisis, invest in our working families by passing universal pre-K and cutting childcare costs, and more.
I’m working hard in Washington to get this done, but it’s going to take a swell of grassroots support to get this next step in President Biden’s agenda passed.
So, will you add your name to my petition demanding Congress pass the Build Back Better Act and continue delivering the change Americans deserve? All of us speaking out helped secure a historic infrastructure investment, and we’ll need to do it once more.
After years of partisan politics consuming Washington, it is past time to work together and deliver results for people. We now have an opportunity to work together and do that, and I am going to work to get the job done for Wisconsin.
As always, thank you for your time and support.
