MISSILE DEFENSE MONDAYS November 2 - November 8, 2021 THE WEEK IN BRIEF On Sunday night, 29 civilians, including women and children, were killed and injured in a missile attack on a mosque and religious school in Yemen. The two ballistic missiles used in the attack were used by Iranian-backed Houthi fighters. This new system, called the High Availability Aerostat System, resembles a blimp or zeppelin. Also on Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia's navy will begin receiving the first shipments of Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles in 2022. On Thursday, the Pentagon released a declassified version of its annual report to Congress on Chinese military developments. The document revealed that China's new ballistic missile submarines have the capability of striking the United States homeland without even leaving the port. On Saturday, a top Turkish defense official confirmed that Turkey had successfully conducted a test of it's own high-altitude, long-range air defense missile system that counters the Russian S-400 defense system.
