October 30, 2019: Data from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that 68,557 people died from drug overdoses in the U.S. during 2018.^[1]

While the total number is discouraging, it represents a 6% improvement from the year before. In fact, this is the first year since 1999 that the number of overdose deaths has declined.^[1]
