Late Friday evening, after weeks of intense negotiations, the House officially passed the bipartisan infrastructure bill, sending it to President Biden for enactment.
Key to the decision was the agreement to move forward on the most important climate and environmental justice bill in U.S. history: the Build Back Better Act.
We are now expecting a vote on the climate bill NEXT WEEK. This is it, Friend — the moment we have been waiting for.
We fought hard to get this far. LCV knocked on more than 338,000 doors, distributed over 15,000 "Climate Action Now" yard signs, and garnered support from more than 11,500 businesses. Our state affiliates have held hundreds of events with members of Congress and local leaders in key districts and states to
make climate the center of this bill and push it forward.
The environmental movement will shape what happens next. Whether or not this bill gets through will depend on grassroots pressure.
A group of donors has just agreed to triple match every contribution to keep our campaigns running until the Senate vote. If you're in a position to pitch in, please, renew your membership to LCV today. All it takes is $5:
Triple your impact. Help keep pressure on Congress to pass the biggest climate and environmental justice investment in U.S. history. This only happens when the environmental movement shows up for the fight »
Friend, our campaigns are working— we wouldn't have gotten this far without them. We're pushing on every possible front to make sure the U.S. passes the climate test: cutting planet-warming pollution in half by 2030.
And the Build Back Better Act is just part of the picture. Last week, after months of campaigning, we also secured major
victories with the Biden-Harris administration. Last Tuesday, the EPA proposed sweeping policies to
cut methane emissions from oil and gas operations, the BLM proposed new standards for oil and gas operations on public lands, and the agency in charge of regulating pipelines also proposed new rules on this harmful pollutant.
Methane is the main component of natural gas and a massive contributor to climate change. During the first 20 years after its release, it can have 80 times the warming power of carbon dioxide.
These back-to-back victories are a huge show of force by our movement. With world leaders convening for the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, it's absolutely critical to demonstrate that the U.S. is finally ready to take serious climate action. If we pull this off — we have a real chance to secure global emissions reductions, protect communities, and hold the oil and gas industry accountable for its contributions to climate change.
There's real hope here to make a difference. But at the end of the day, if we fail now, we might not have another chance. So we're asking:
Please, pitch in and triple your impact — even $5 can help. This campaign is too important to miss »
Thanks for your support, friend.
Onward,
