John,
After the deadly attack on our Capitol on January 6, many big corporations pledged to pause or ‘re-evaluate’ giving to Republicans in Congress who voted to overturn the 2020 election.
But now, less than a year later, they’re going back on pledges to stop funding members of the Sedition Caucus.
As usual, they’re putting influence and profits above our democracy.
After the insurrection, corporations made big statements about pausing funding for members of the Sedition Caucus. For example, companies like GM, Boeing, American Airlines, and others pledged to pause all political donations or 're-evaluate' their relationships with Republicans in Congress who voted to overturn the 2020 election.
But now, less than a year later, their corporate PACs have quietly resumed giving to Republicans who supported the insurrection. According to the latest campaign finance data, big corporations and lobbying groups have now donated at least $5.8 million in all of 2021 so far to Republican objectors to the 2020 vote count.
UPS, American Airlines, Tyson - the PACs of many leading companies that pledged to suspend their donations have since kicked in money to help re-elect one or more of the Members of Congress who attacked our democracy at Donald Trump’s behest.
It’s no surprise. We know corporate PACs are toxic for our democracy - and this proves it. They simply think we’re not paying attention - and they think they won’t pay a price.
We must show them that we’re paying attention and demand that they sever all ties with lawmakers who threatened our democracy.
Thank you for all you do,
-HAZMAT America
