Friend,
The Federal Trade Commission just announced that Amazon is going to
repay $60 million in unpaid tips it withheld from 140,000 delivery
drivers.(1)
It's just the latest of a number of media exposés on how Amazon does
business, including how the megacorporation underpaid and even fired
workers on medical leave, and that it's relaunching the anti-union efforts
that the National Labor Relations Board censured it for.(2,3)
Public pressure is building on the corporation, and it's beginning to work
to change how things are done. Now is the time to hit Amazon where it
hurts -- in the wallet.
[ [link removed] ]Courage California is running a media blitz and ad campaign to help
convince people to boycott Amazon this holiday season. Will you chip in
$5?
Last year, Amazon made nearly $5 billion on Black Friday and Cyber Monday
alone.(4)
As small businesses across the nation are suffering, Amazon has been
gobbling up more and more of the economy. And it’s not passing those
record profits on to its 1.3 million workers in any meaningful way.
Right now, we’re at a tipping point with Amazon. The country is in the
middle of a labor uprising, and we, as the consumers, need to have these
workers’ backs. If we do nothing, Amazon will continue to run roughshod
over its employees and our communities, and nothing will change.
But if enough people shop local, support small businesses, and stop
clicking “add to cart” on Amazon over the next two months, we can pressure
the megacorporation to reform.
Amazon counts on the holiday season to rake in billions of dollars, and we
need to leverage our power as consumers to send the billion-dollar
corporation a message: Stop abusing your employees!
Courage California has designed an eye-catching ad campaign, and our
coalition is going to run it online and in print to rally people to reject
Amazon and embrace community businesses this holiday season. And the more
money we can raise right now, the wider we can spread our ads.
