It’s one year out from election day and we are announcing our first round of candidate endorsements!

Hey Indivisibles,

Late last week, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework passed, along with promises from conservative Democrats to support the most important part of the Biden Agenda: the Build Back Better package. While we remain hopeful that Democrats are going to get the big package done, the ongoing obstructionism of conservative Dems made one thing clear: we need more progressives in Congress fighting for our priorities. That’s why today, one year out from election day, we’re taking action to get more progressives onto ballots and into Congress to fight for the wins we need.

Today, we’re announcing the return of our National Endorsements program with an initial slate of 7 progressive powerhouses. These are the incumbents at the forefront of fighting for our priorities and the challengers we want to see join them in cementing progressive power.

Indivisible's first round of endorsements

For this first round, Indivisible proudly endorses Rep. Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Rep. Ilhan Omar (MN-05), Rep. Mondaire Jones (NY-17), Jessica Cisneros (TX-28), Odessa Kelly (TN-05), Kina Collins (IL-07), and Melanie D’Arrigo (NY-03).

  • Rep. Pramila Jayapal has already accomplished more than most members of Congress do in their entire tenure. As the chairperson of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, she's introduced and co-sponsored some of the most progressive legislation in recent years. Rep. Jayapal has also worked hard to ensure that House Democrats stick to their promises and pass an inclusive Build Back Better Plan that works for all Americans.
  • Rep. Ilhan Omar is a refugee, a mother, and the first-ever Black, Muslim woman to serve in the House. In her short time in office, Rep. Omar has established herself as a key member of an emerging progressive voting bloc, often introducing or co-sponsoring ambitious progressive policies. She was an original co-sponsor of the House Green New Deal resolution, advocating for major reform on climate change.
  • Rep. Mondaire Jones is running for reelection to pass the Green New Deal and Medicare for All, forgive student debt and make college tuition-free, and ensure that everyone can provide for themselves and their families. He knows that we need more representatives who are committed to social, racial, and economic justice, and who will fight for a democracy that works for everyone.
  • Jessica Cisneros is a human rights and immigration attorney born and raised in the border town of Laredo. She’s running against Rep. Henry Cuellar, an anti-choice, anti-environment, anti-labor conservative who’s been fighting against progressive priorities in Congress for over 15 years. Jessica will fight to protect workers’ right to organize and bargain for a better deal. She wants to bring new jobs to the district to repair South Texas’ crumbling infrastructure. And she’s a strong advocate for a Green New Deal, creating countless good paying union jobs as South Texas becomes a leader in renewable energy.
  • Born and raised on the East Side of Nashville, Odessa Kelly has a long track record of advocating for her community. She spent 14 years as a public servant in Nashville’s Parks Department, where she saw first-hand the effects of political neglect and policy failure: poverty, substance abuse, and gun violence. As the first Black woman elected to Congress from Tennessee, Odessa will be ready to take on the big structural issues that limit opportunities for working families.
  • Hailing from one of the most diverse districts in Illinois, Kina Collins is running for Congress because she believes that her district can be a transformative district, built on equity and inclusion. The residents of IL-07 deserve a fighter -- and that is exactly what she promises to do. She’ll fight for livable wages, school zones and neighborhoods free of gun violence, and full access to quality healthcare.
  • As a mom of three, Melanie D’Arrigo is running for Congress because she knows that the children of today deserve so much more than the world they are inheriting. D’Arrigo believes that we can create a country that works for all of us if we elect representatives that prioritize our people. She will not be taking any corporate money because she wants to restore the voice of the people and fight for an inclusive democracy for all.

But we’re not stopping here! Indivisible groups, we need your help to grow our endorsement slate. If your group has endorsed a great candidate for House, Senate, or Governor, let us know and nominate them for a national endorsement! All nominations are vetted by our team, we send candidates our questionnaire, and then Indivisibles in the district vote on whether to endorse. Lots of groups have found endorsements to be really, really valuable -- you can read these group leaders’ stories of their successful national endorsements in 2018 and 2020. Want to make a local endorsement but not sure how to get started? Check out our Endorsements Guide to get your questions answered.

These seven candidates are amazing and we’re going to do everything we can to make sure they win office. We’re ready to watch your groups throw all your political power behind these endorsed candidates, and bring real progressive change to your neighborhoods, districts, and states.

In solidarity,
