john --
As we head towards the Christmas season, and hopefully into a
beautiful Wellington summer, I wanted to touch base and share with you
a few notices, and some activities I have been up to around our
city.
Next week we have our annual Wellington Central fundraising dinner
with the Leader of the National Party, Hon Judith Collins. This is
always a fun night, and it would be great to see you there. Check out
the details of this event below.

Ending MIQ
Why is the Government continuing the miserable MIQ lottery?
It is simply not right that New Zealanders wanting to come home are
forced to wait forever for a MIQ spot. This is a matter of fairness.
If Kiwis are double-vaccinated and have returned negative COVID tests
then they should be able to isolate at home, particularly as hundreds
of COVID positive people are isolating at home.
Let’s reunite families and allow New Zealanders to come home. Sign
National's petition to end MIQ below.
Enjoying the Wellington Sun
Here I am on a recent walk to Mt Kaukau. I hope you are managing to
get out and about and enjoy the wonderful weather Wellington has been
having recently. Long may it continue, although as I'm sure we have
all learnt by now, make sure you enjoy it before it goes away!
Holding the Government to Account on Housing
I am continuing to hold this Government's feet to the flame when it
comes to their promises on housing. We have seen recently that
rapidly rising rents are squeezing people out of private rentals
and into desperate need, causing people to line up for a state house
in record numbers. Labour needs to stop adding taxes to landlords, and
focus on the things that we know will make a difference: building more
houses.
Be my Youth MP
Are you, or do you know, a young person interested in political
issues and debate? Want to learn more about how Parliament works? Have
ideas that New Zealand needs to hear about? Then Youth Parliament
might just be the opportunity you’ve been looking for.
Youth Parliament is a unique way for young people to learn
first-hand about how our Parliament works. It only happens once every
three years and gives you a chance to take on the role of an MP and
work with them to learn more about how our jobs really work. It’s a
special opportunity, with 120 youth representatives hand-picked by MPs
to represent the best and brightest from communities up and down the
country.
I am on the hunt for a young Wellingtonian to take my place. I’m
looking for someone who is interested in Parliament, has ideas about
how we can make New Zealand better and wants to learn more about how
they can put those ideas into action. If you’ve had a background in
community service, have strong views on policy issues, enjoy advocacy
and debate then this could be you.
To find out how to apply, visit the link below. Applications are
due by 5pm Friday 12th of November.
I’m continuing to enjoy getting out and about in the Wellington
community and I’m always keen to be involved in local events. If
you know of any local community events I should attend, please do not
hesitate to let me know.
In the meantime, please feel free to contact me if I can be of any
assistance to you.
Thank you for your ongoing support,
Nicola
