If we're serious about Building Back Better, we cannot leave behind the immigrants who have done so much for the country.

Friend,

Over the last couple of months, I've been at the negotiating table, meeting with Speaker Pelosi and my Democratic colleagues to make sure that we deliver on the promises made to our immigrant communities.

I was elected to fight for every Chicagoan, for everyone lucky enough to live in America. That includes our undocumented family, friends, and neighbors. I won't stop now, but I need you in this fight.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Plan, which passed last Friday night, and the Build Back Better Act, which now has the support of all House Democrats, are transformative and will improve the quality of life of Americans everywhere, in blue states and red. But if we're serious about Building Back Better, we cannot leave behind the immigrants who have done so much for the country.

Undocumented workers across the country sacrificed so that we could endure the pandemic this past year. They saved lives in emergency rooms, provided the agricultural labor power that has allowed our families to put food on the table, and been essential workers across industries. But all too often, they have been left without relief or medical assistance because of their immigration status.

We must fix our broken immigration system -- for them.

This work is far from over. I will not stop negotiating to advance stronger protections and a pathway to citizenship for immigrants, and I won’t back down to Republicans or Conservative Democrats like Joe Manchin or Kyrsten Sinema. Will you support me as I continue this fight?

Thank you,
Chuy
