John -- BNC’s Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick is currently ahead by just FIVE VOTES in the special election to represent FL-20. Ballots are still being counted, and we fully expect Sheila to win this.
While the recount is carrying on, however, we’re unpacking the results from last week’s elections and looking ahead to what that means for our first primaries just a few months away.
Tuesday may have been a disappointing night for Democrats, but it was generally a very good night for progressives.
Michelle Wu, a champion of the Green New Deal, became the first woman and the first person of color elected mayor of Boston. Cleveland, OH and my hometown Dearborn, MI also elected progressive mayors. And progressives won key down-ballot races across the country.
All of this is good news, but we’ve got our work cut out for us next year. Our first primary is in Texas, March 1st, where BNC candidates Jessica Cisneros (TX-28) and Jessica Mason (TX-30) are both on the ballot.
We have less than 100 days until early voting starts in Texas, and there’s no time to waste. Your contribution of $25 today will make sure we have the resources needed to help both Cisneros and Mason win. If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: Your support over the coming months will be crucial. With 22 candidates on the slate we have a LOT of races to win, including three progressive Senate candidates.
Imagine how the Build Back Better fight would have been different if three progressive Senators held the deciding votes instead of Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema? Or if Henry Cuellar (who opposed the bipartisan deal) had been defeated by Jessica Cisneros in 2020?
The bottom line is we need more progressive fighters in office if we’re going to address the material needs of working people. And we need your help to make that happen.
Please consider a monthly contribution of $27, $10, or even $5 to BNC to support our on-going work.
Let’s win some elections!
