Vote to retain the electors' legal vote on Sept. 21st to change KUSD school board compensation from a $6,500/year stipend to $100 per regular in-person meeting with in-person attendance of that meeting.
A newly formed "coalition" of teachers' union members and local liberal activists petitioned for this Nov. 8th meeting to reverse the will of the electors. They are proposing that the $6,500 stipends be restored. They may even propose a higherpay rate for school board members.
If they are successful, members of the school board could be beholden to these political special interest groups even more than they already are. This is outright collusion.
SHOW UP and VOTEagainst a pay increase for school board members!
- KUSD total district Math & English proficiency is below 25% - among 19,700 students! They have no plan to improve this.
- Enrollment has plummeted by nearly 1300 students in 2 years
- The board voted for a sharp spending increase this year - from $309 million in 2019 to $332 million in 2021 - with far less students.
- The board continues to meet virtually, while members hypocritically attend other crowded public meetings and events in person. They do not want to face parents who disagree with them. They are trying to silence free speech.
- The board continues to make medical decisions for children without parents' permission. They disregard First Amendment religious rights and the sovereignty of parental decision making.
- Some of the board members support comprehensive sex education in K-12 schools that includes a wide spectrum of gender identities, which often conflicts with religious beliefs of families. They disregard this.
- Several of the board members support teaching rooted in the foundations of critical race theory, and they have already spent huge sums on training staff to teach every subject through a "racial lens."
The current board pay structure reflects similar compensation for school board members in neighboring common school districts. Let's keep it that way.
