Friend -
My parents were members of the civil rights movement, and my father got arrested helping people register to vote in Mississippi when he was just 16 years old. My mom was doing the same work, although she was smart enough not to get caught.
I grew up in a family of agitators; my family believed that you cannot wait for change to come - you must set out to make change happen.
Next week, Georgians will vote in municipal elections, and in Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Virginia, and states across the country, voters have an opportunity to make change happen by showing up to vote and casting their ballots.
But our voices must be heard for democracy to work.
Fair Fight has a simple premise, that democracy belongs to all of us. Will you make your first donation today so that we can help protect the rights of voters in Tuesday's elections?
We have to be agitators for our democracy, friend. We have to be agitators for justice. We know that changing the status quo will require all of us to be part of this movement for free and fair elections.
Because when we ensure that every eligible voter can access the ballot and have their vote fairly counted, we are in pursuit of a new kind of collective power: the power to control our lives, to change our fates, and to win progress for our communities.
Make no mistake: our fight is just beginning, because elections are about people, and the people have the right to be heard in every election, every time.
Thank you for helping us make change happen.
Yours in the fight,
Stacey Abrams
