Blasting Congressional Democrats' Radical Tax-and-Spending Spree

Last night, Speaker Pelosi and Congressional Democrats rammed through a nearby $2 trillion so-called infrastructure package where less than 10% of the new funding is for roads and bridges and is also linked with a multi-trillion-dollar tax-and-spending spree. This infrastructure bill shortchanges states like ours, while bankrolling infrastructure in cities like San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Boston, and Los Angeles.
In the text of the massive, multi-trillion-dollar tax-and-spend bill we just received, President Biden breaks his promise not to raise taxes on families making less than $400,000 a year with a natural gas tax that will increase household electricity rates by 30 percent and hit low-income families the hardest.
Penn Wharton estimates there will be nearly $4 trillion of new spending with $1.5 trillion of new taxes from this inflationary bill.
Make no mistake — President Biden's agenda will raise taxes on middle-class families, ship jobs overseas, and cause the price of everyday household goods to skyrocket. Speaker Pelosi and her liberal lieutenants are doubling down on their socialist agenda by establishing a natural gas tax, using taxpayer funding to hire 87,000 more IRS agents to snoop on Americans, and rubber-stamping illegal amnesty requests.
Despite how hard things are right now for hard-working American families, Congressional Democrats have insisted on pushing their unpopular and irresponsible agenda instead of addressing their self-made inflation, supply chain, and border crises.
Recognizing Veteran-Owned Small Businesses
In honor of National Veterans Small Business Week, I participated in a roundtable with small business owners from across the country, including Joe Lindenmayer and David Haydel, two veteran business owners who run California Closets of the Gulf Coast and Haydel's Bakery in Metairie.
As small business owners, they're working tirelessly to overcome the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and President Biden’s failed policies that have led to supply chain disruptions, labor shortages, and inflated costs. I will continue to support our veteran-owned small businesses and fight against the job-killing policies that will harm the very men and women who fought to protect the freedoms we enjoy as Americans.
Discussing Energy and Telecommunications Security on WWL Radio
I joined "The Scoot Show with Scoot" on WWL Radio to talk about the importance of producing energy here in America to strengthen our economy and protect Louisiana's coastline through offshore energy revenue-sharing.
Instead of focusing on strengthening the U.S. energy economy, President Biden traveled to Scotland for the international climate conference to apologize to the world for America getting out of the Paris Accord during the Trump Administration. He failed to mention that the U.S. has continued to reduce our carbon emissions for years through technology and innovation, while countries like China and Russia continue to increase their carbon emissions. Any global agreement that excludes China and Russia and hurts America’s economy actually goes the other way on carbon emissions – you’ll have more global carbon emissions if you shut down energy production in America. Oil and natural gas will continue to be required for the everyday needs of families. Instead of calling on greater energy production from Saudi Arabia and other OPEC countries that emit more carbon to make the same things, President Biden should support American energy production and manufacturing.
It is also important for our state to continue producing energy in the Gulf of Mexico, which not only helps to heat homes across America, but also funds hundreds of millions of dollars in coastal restoration work and hurricane protection projects that are critical to our state through revenue sharing.
We also discussed my bipartisan Secure Equipment Act, which prevents China from infiltrating America's telecommunications network and compromising our national security. This bill, which passed the Senate unanimously and now heads to the President's desk to be signed into law, forcefully signals to the Chinese Communist Party that America is committed to protecting the privacy and security of our citizens. I also emphasized that Congress needs to work together to pass more meaningful, bipartisan legislation that benefits and protects Americans from enemies seeking to do us harm.
