John,
Late last night, I voted to pass the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act through the House.
This massive bill is history in the making. It will create millions of jobs and bring America's infrastructure into the 21st century.
I'm proud to share that this historic bill includes $1 billion for Reconnecting Communities, an initiative I co-led. This investment will rebuild, reconnect, and transform inner-city infrastructure, including here in Philadelphia in Nicetown, Chinatown, and the Delaware River waterfront.
But there's much, much more. The bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will:
• Make the largest investment in public transportation ever to modernize transit and improve accessibility for seniors and people with disabilities;
• Invest in roads and bridges, including $66 billion for rail;
• Bring reliable high-speed internet to every single American;
• Modernize the electric grid;
• Make the largest investment in clean drinking water and wastewater infrastructure in American history;
• Invest in climate resilience, including making communities safer from extreme weather and climate-related disasters;
I'm proud Congress delivered this massive new investment that will create jobs and make our communities safer for all. But we're not finished yet.
Workers and families are counting on Congress to invest in affordable child care and health care. We need to fight climate change, and it's time we permanently expand the Child Tax Credit.
America has always had the tools to tackle poverty aggressively, and right now is the time for Congress to think and act BIG. I will keep fighting until we secure key investments in working families, and I'm grateful to have you by my side as we press on.
Thank you,
Dwight
