The movement to transform public safety in Minneapolis was fueled by supporters just like you and the impact of your gift cannot be overstated.

What began as a petition with the support of over 22,000 quickly became a clarion call for more resources, transparency, and avenues to address public safety concerns. More than 62,000 Minneapolis voters rejected the proposition that police are the only way to be safe. That’s what matters, and that’s so incredibly powerful.

But make no mistake, John, the close of this campaign is another beginning. We won’t stop continuing to organize and support long-term capacity building in Minneapolis and other cities across the county. The fact you’re receiving this email is an indication that we care that you’re with us as we carry the baton past this one election. If you can afford to, show you’re with us by making a $3 contribution to sustain the ongoing work that protects Black people and our families because it’s the right thing to do.

The opposition campaign that was against us was greater this time than anything we’ve ever experienced. But we’re undeterred. Over 62,000 residents in Minneapolis were undeterred and voted for what was best for their families in favor of a comprehensive, public health approach to safety.

The results of this election should not distract us from the present danger of a police-only public emergency response. The powerful community actions that got the initiative on the ballot following the murder of George Floyd last year set into motion a grassroots movement that cannot be denied. Together, we’ll continue this movement to reject what we know isn’t working and focus on expanding what public safety that prioritizes Black people look like.
