November 5, 2021

Hello Portlanders,

What a month so far. (And it’s only the 5th!)

I’m sending along a quick day-by-day review of some of the (local, City Council related) happenings during this first week of November 2021. Just seems like the right thing to do...!

Monday, November 1st - City Council voted unanimously (8-0) to approve lease agreements for a new Emergency Homeless Services Center. Click here, and scroll to Order 82 to see lease agreements.

Tuesday, November 2nd - Election Day! Anna Trevorrow won the District 1 Council Seat, while Victoria Pelletier won the District 2 Council Seat. No winner was declared for the At-Large Seat. The citizen initiated Ballot measure calling for smaller shelters in Portland fell short with 31% of the vote

Wednesday, November 3rd - City Officials determine next steps for settling the numerical tie that resulted in the At Large Council race between Brandon Mazer and Roberto Rodriguez. Press coverage of the rare situation, and the prelude to "drawing lots" here.

Thursday, November 4th - Lots are drawn. In this case, folded pieces of paper from a wooden bowl. Brandon Mazer was declared the winner. However, a recount has been requested by Roberto Rodriguez. For more info, including next steps for the recount, click here.  (The recount has been scheduled for Tuesday, November 9th from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM at Ocean Gateway. If a second day is needed, the recount will continue on Wednesday, November 10th.)

I’ll send another email before November 22nd….but for early planners, please plan to join me if you’d like:
Mayor Zoom Meeting (No formal agenda. Come one, come all.)
November 22nd at 4pm

https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86774867902?pwd=YU1QcnFwRWdOR2lhc1l4Y085anN6Zz09
(For anyone new to my email list - I host a monthly “Mayor Zoom” meeting. This is a relaxed, drop-in meeting with no agenda. I’m interested in hearing what’s on your mind. And, I’m happy to answer questions to the best of my ability. This has proven to be a good way to share information, ideas, and concerns. If you can’t make this meeting, please know there will be another next month - always during the last week of the month, but on different days of the week, and at different times of day - in hopes of reaching as many people as possible as the months go.)

I’ll be back in touch soon,

Kate Merchant Snyder
