** Walk-in booster jabs now available
------------------------------------------------------------
As we head into winter, getting your Covid booster jab is more important than ever.

Covid cases are high and as the temperature gets colder, people will be spending more time inside where the virus is more likely to spread.

It’s now easier than ever to get your booster with walk in-sites now offering the top up jab, meaning that, if you’re eligible and it’s been six months since your last vaccine, you won’t need to book an appointment. You can also book via the National Booking Service ([link removed])

Who’s eligible? Anyone over 50 along with people with specific jobs or conditions that bring them in close contact with or make them more vulnerable to the virus.

Why should I get it? A Covid booster shot will help protect you from the worst effects of the virus. The protection you get from your initial vaccine doses decreases over time, so the booster is designed to help you maintain your immunity level for longer.

Where can I get one? You can now pop into a walk-in site near you without having to book an appointment.

Over 70% of Oldham residents have now had their first and second Covid vaccine so if you haven’t already, get yourself a jab to ensure you have the best protection possible.

Big Bang Bonfire
Our Back with a BANG bonfire took place on Oldham Edge last night and was a huge success in bringing our community together.

There were fire performers, robots on stilts and fairground rides to keep the whole family entertained. Not forgetting our magnificent bonfire that had lots of children amazed (and toasty warm on a cold November evening).

Scarlett Curtis, age 7, was the lucky winner of our Push the Button competition and set off this year’s Fantastic Fireworks display, much to everyone’s enjoyment. It’s been wonderful to see all the colourful images and videos on social media – so thank you to those who’ve shared.

Having skipped last year’s bonfire due to Covid restrictions, we took extra precautions this year to make sure the event could go ahead, including a full complement of volunteers, on-site testing and Test and Trace QR codes around the site.

Thank you to all our residents who came along and a special thank you to our volunteers, performers and vendors who gave everyone a show to remember.

See you again next year!

New waste disposal permit for vans and trailers
From Wednesday 1 December, if you’re planning on using a van (including pick-ups) or twin axle trailer to dispose of your household waste at your local recycling centre, you will need to apply for a permit.

The permit has been introduced to help deter trade waste abuse at recycling centres and improve access for residents disposing of their household waste.

It’s easy to apply for, there’s no cost and you’ll be able to access the recycling centre 18 times over the year.
