Hello,

I’ll get straight to the good news: eight of the 12 candidates New Politics endorsed on the ballot on Tuesday won their races! Highlights included Lourdes Barosso de Padilla, an alumna of City Year who became the first Latina to be elected to City Council in Columbus, Ohio, and Caroline Simmons, a former DHS Special Assistant who eked out a victory by 112 votes in Stamford, CT, on her way to becoming the youngest Mayor elected in the country this year.

Running for office takes courage. We’re so proud of all the candidates who stepped into the arena this year for putting action behind their conviction that elected office is fundamentally about service.

Unfortunately, not all the news coming out of Tuesday night is good news.

Tuesday’s election results have not been broadly contested or denied, but make no mistake, the anti-democratic faction of the political right has not gone away. In addition to demanding bogus recounts and sham “audits” of last year’s presidential election, the same people who stormed the Capitol on January 6 are seizing power by running for office.

Of course, it doesn’t follow logically that people who decry our elections as “rigged” should act like the same are legitimate when they themselves are the winners, but logic isn’t what matters to them. That’s why it’s so dangerous, and why we’re counting on your support to build our movement.

New Politics will be recruiting and supporting 150 candidates during the 2022 cycle – transformative servant leaders who put service first and country over party. Will you chip in $28 or whatever you can afford to support our effort?
