This week, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments on procedural issues around the ability to challenge Texas’s draconian six-week abortion ban and so-called “bounty hunter” law, S.B. 8. But as we await the Court’s decision on that, the law’s damage might already have been done.
Since S.B. 8 went into effect this September, the number of abortions in Texas has plummeted by more than 50% [1] – and dozens of far-right lawmakers in other states have promised that they, too, would enact heinously restrictive bans on abortion care. We need to keep up the momentum of our movement for abortion justice and STOP these other anti-choice bills from becoming law.
Arkansas, Oklahoma, Indiana, Montana and South Dakota have all put in place restrictions to abortion access this year alone, and a Florida lawmaker has already proposed a bill that directly copies the appalling provisions of S.B. 8. In fact, states have enacted more than 100 abortion restrictions this year in what has become the most restrictive year for abortion access since Roe v. Wade was decided.[2]
What's happening in Texas affects all of us. These are direct attacks on our fundamental right to care, and we need your help to fight back against these bans and ensure every single one of us has the right to control our own bodies. Reproductive freedom is under attack, and it’s time for us to band together to defend it.
