Honoring Dia de Muertos

We honor all of those who have passed due to inhumane policies and subject to injustice at the hands of government agencies and facilities.

Since 2003, at least 215 people have died in immigration detention and ICE custody. Nine of those people passed away due to COVID-19 infection and complications. With one of those lives being lost here within the Otay Mesa Detention Center.

Due to the implementation of Operation Gatekeeper and other inhumane US government policies, an estimated 11,000 people have lost their lives while making the journey through our southern border due to extreme weather, lack of food, water, and the overall perilous nature of the trip.

Many more have gone missing and their remains are yet to be found. Although we may never know their names, we recognize and remember the thousands of daughters, sons, mothers, fathers, spouses, and friends.

Camino de Salvacion shelter in Tijuana celebrated its 5 year anniversary now under the direction of Pastora Adriana. Pastora Adriana and our Shelter network in Tijuana suffered a great loss upon the passing of her husband and co-director Pastor Altamirano. Pastor Altamirano was caring, dedicated, and always treated everyone with dignity and respect. We admire the amazing resilience and continued work of Camino de Salvacion shelter, honoring the great legacy that Pastor Altamirano left behind.

We are grateful to still be able to provide celebrations like this one. The feast included meals from all over the world like tamales from Mexico, hot dogs from the US, noodles from China, and so much more. We thank you for your continued support and love to see our migrant families be able to enjoy some comfort food from their native countries as well as try some new ones.

We're excited to share we've just purchased this van for our partner organization and member of El Chaparral Humanitarian Alliance: Psicologos Sin Fronteras, B.C. Their work of providing mental health consultations and services to address and heal the collective trauma of migrants and asylum seekers can now be aided more because of this van! This means of transportation will allow this organization to carry out its important work both at the shelters and at the El Chaparral encampment.

"One of the pillars of the work that PSFBC carries out is the network support with organizations that pursue the altruistic objective of relief based on cooperation and focused on social advocacy in an objective and constructive way."

We are grateful for your continued support which allows us to partner with and support organizations offering services that are fundamental to migrant communities.

10 miles on foot is what it took to cover the area where we left supplies at numerous drop sites this past Saturday. With limitations of parking locations, Border Angels hike in supplies to almost all of our drop sites, and sometimes it takes going longer distances. All of our team members were up for the challenge, and what a good drop day it was.

Our group saw up close and personal the effect that the new border fence construction (2020) has on migration into the United States. Those crossing through the desert are being pushed to a more dangerous terrain, where the risk is higher for injury and/or worse. The new construction also pushes those crossing to travel longer distances as well.
Until further notice, we are still not taking any new volunteers. Click here to donate ([link removed]) 💧

Raquel has become the first U.S. Citizen through our program! We celebrate this huge win alongside attorney Fabiola Navarro who was instrumental in helping Raquel pass her citizenship test. Thank you for your continued support!

Know Your Rights Session
As the border and entry to the United States to apply for asylum remains blocked, lawyers are not able to request asylum or humanitarian parole. While we can’t offer legal assistance, the El Chaparral Humanitarian Alliance hosted another Know Your Rights event this past Tuesday at Borderline Crisis Center and via Facebook Live.

You can access that session Here ([link removed]) .
BA in the News

State AG meets with San Diego leaders to discuss rise in hate crimes:

Dulce Garcia, executive director of the nonprofit Border Angels, said she remembers hearing an unpleasant anti-immigrant speech when he grew up in California. She linked ongoing “harmful rhetoric” to the Trump administration.

“Today’s conversation was very important because it wasn’t just” sticks and stones. ” This hateful word has caused horrific crimes locally in our country and here, “Garcia said.
