We’ve got two great nominees for the FCC - now we need the Senate to confirm!
John,
The White House finally announced two excellent nominees to fill the empty position and the permanent Chair role for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).1
Now we need to act FAST to make sure the Senate confirms them before the end of the year. If they don’t, we may not get net neutrality in 2022.
There is no question that people have struggled without net neutrality Title II protections, which are crucial to ensuring that companies like Comcast and Verizon don’t limit Internet content or access. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have shown that they’re fine screwing people over if it increases their bottom lines: they’ve throttled firefighters’ Internet access in the middle of massive wildfires; they’ve left kids without Internet access to do their homework outside of Taco Bell in the middle of a pandemic.2,3
But the FCC can put an end to this. With a decisive majority that will fight to reinstate net neutrality, the FCC can rein in Big Cable companies and make sure peoples’ access is protected.
Our intel suggests that both the candidates have a good chance at being confirmed, but the Senate has been moving painstakingly slowly on so many things. We must make it clear to them that these confirmations are a priority. Don’t let them wrap up the year without getting these net neutrality champions confirmed. Tell your Senators to confirm the FCC nominees STAT!
