Hi John -
It's Myriam Sabbaghi, Community Organizer with NIAC. We've heard that Instagram is targeting users of Iranian [[link removed]] origin by suspending their accounts. This is really concerning because Instagram is one of the only Western apps not yet banned by the government [[link removed]] .
It’s critical for journalists and activists to utilize Instagram. And we think Instagram owes an explanation to its members and the general public about why users are being targeted on the basis of national origin.
This is nothing new, but that doesn’t make it okay.
We believe that access to the open internet is a basic human right. That starts with big tech taking accountability and being fair to all users. Can you chip in today to help us advocate for Iranians’ right to access information online?
