The American Courage Awards is an annual event hosted by Advancing Justice - AAJC, honoring individuals, groups, and corporations in recognition of their extraordinary courage or commitment to the cause of Asian American and Pacific Islander civil rights.

The event is FREE this year! We appreciate any contributions you would like to make in advance or the night of the event to enable us to continue protecting our communities and promoting civil and human rights for all. For further event details please contact: [email protected]

In addition to congratulating our amazing honorees Weijia Jiang (American Courage Award), Hollaback! (Changemaker Award), and Bank of America (Bridge Builder Award), we are thrilled to announce that we will have special guest performances from rapper and spoken word artist Ruby Ibarra and poet Serena Yang!

Meet Our Guest Performers!
Ruby Ibarra is a Filipino American rapper, music producer, and spoken word artist from San Lorenzo, California. Submerged in the melting pot of the Bay Area, Ruby's adolescent years introduced her to a wide array of cultures, experiences, and most importantly: hip hop, which resonated at every corner of her neighborhood. In addition to being a successful artist who raps unapologetically about the Filipino American immigrant experience, Ruby is also a scientist who works in the biotechnology industry and has contributed essential research for the production of COVID-19 vaccines and test kits.
Serena Yang is a poet and writer who serves as the 2021 NYC Youth Poet Laureate and the Northeastern Regional Finalist for the 2021 National Youth Poet Laureate title. Born in Singapore and raised in Queens, she is a first-generation Chinese American immigrant, and her work reflects her myriad identities and moves toward our collective liberation. She believes imagination and storytelling is critical to justice work and writes, always, with the knowledge that a better world is possible.
