A Note from Chrissy

Every month, I’m doing my best to serve my community, Commonwealth, and country. Last month was no different: I hosted a job fair in my community, continued my fight for paid family and medical leave, and worked to get federal funding for disaster relief and environmental conservation. There’s a lot to loop you in on, so here are some highlights:

Time
Paid Family Leave Just Got Cut From the Democrats’ Spending Bill. What Gives?

I had my first child, my Molly, when I was active duty in the Air Force. Serving my country and caring for my daughter at the same time was hard, but decades later, it’s a challenge millions of parents still face – and the COVID-19 pandemic has only made matters worse. Giving birth is hard work, and it’s absolutely ridiculous that too many new parents forgo pay if they stay home to care for a newborn. We need paid family and medical leave now.

I won’t lie: I’m deeply disappointed that it was cut from the Build Back Better Act after I led over 100 of my colleagues in the House in urging President Biden to include it. But the fight for paid parental and family leave is far from over, and I refuse to stop advocating for paid leave until it’s a reality.

From Capitol Hill
Houlahan Visits FEMA Disaster Recovery Center

After helping Chester County receive a federal disaster declaration following Hurricane Ida, I visited the FEMA Disaster Recovery Center in Downingtown. Recovering from severe flooding and devastation can be a difficult and chaotic experience. That’s why it’s so important that small businesses and homeowners impacted by Hurricane Ida know this critical resource is available. The last thing people should be worried about now is paperwork. I’m grateful to FEMA and for everyone else helping our community through this time.

Rep. Houlahan says infrastructure bill vital to economy

From our roads, bridges, and rail systems to internet access and clean drinking water, we must get funding for our nation’s crumbling infrastructure across the finish line. Everyday Americans – and our economy – are relying on these critical investments. That’s why I’m urging each and every one of my colleagues in the House – on both sides of the aisle – to do whatever it takes to finally pass the Infrastructure Investment and Job Act.

Houlahan Announces Impressive Lineup for Oct. 12 Job Fair

Over 120 employers, two panels on workforce development, and free COVID-19 vaccines – that’s what you would have seen at our job fair at West Chester University! The idea for this event was inspired by my meetings with businesses across Chester and Berks counties. Time and again, our area employers have expressed their eagerness to expand their workforce. As our economy continues to strengthen, I wanted to help by connecting them with our talented job seekers.

That’s it for now but stay tuned for more updates on my fight for working families in our Commonwealth and across our nation.

And, while it's a bit out of the ordinary in Washington, I take time every week to call back constituents who've contacted our office. These conversations keep me grounded in the most urgent issues facing our community. I’d love to hear from you, too – please give me a call!

There’s work to be done.

– Chrissy

Since Chrissy is focused on delivering progress in the House, fundraising is the last thing on her mind. But the GOP is already eyeing our critical district, naming Chrissy one of their top targets for a blue-to-red flip. We have to build up our resources early to make sure we can fight back against GOP attacks and defend this battleground district come 2022 – so we’re asking for her:

Will you make a donation to help reelect Chrissy to Congress? Your support will make such a difference in our work to defend this critical seat and keep the House blue.
