My name is John Lira -- I’m a proud father, Texan, Marine Corps veteran, and Democrat. I was born and raised right here in Southeast San Antonio and now I’m running for Congress to bring our Texas values to Washington.

As the son of a working-class Mexican-American family, I've always been committed to serving our country. I served 11 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, including two combat tours in Iraq. When I returned to civilian life, I used the G.I. Bill to go back to school and ultimately earned a master’s degree in public policy.

Since then, I’ve focused on empowering community organizations to support veterans and military families. At the U.S. Small Business Administration, I helped to reverse the generational decline of veterans’ entrepreneurship, and at the National Commission on Military, National, and Public Service, I helped develop policies aimed at reviving an ethos of service in America.

Friend, the real work is just getting started, and we’re going to need your help. Together, we must deliver change for the people.
