Historically Black Colleges and Universities have been the cornerstone of higher education for Black students for decades, and as the Congresswoman for the students and faculty of Delaware State University, I know it is imperative that we continue to invest in these institutions.
Just last month, I spent some time at DSU for their Homecoming football game. I spoke with President Tony Allen, and he highlighted that he is committed to making Delaware State the most diverse, contemporary HBCU in America.
I was also able to speak to alumni and students about the issues affecting HBCUs today, and I was proud to highlight my work in Washington to uplift HBCUs.
Just this year, I sponsored the IGNITE HBCU Excellence Act in the House. This legislation will provide for the long-term improvement of HBCUs across the country, and coupled with further investment from the Biden Administration’s Build Back Better Plan, will be a game-changer for HBCUs struggling to improve infrastructure and expand opportunities for students.
I’m going to continue fighting for these investments in our future, and so much more, as long as I’m in Congress.
