[[link removed]] John,

Earlier today, TFN joined with our friends at the National Center for Science Education (NCSE) to release an open letter from 67 Texas climate scientists to the Texas State Board of Education (SBOE).

The message: We must do better.

The fact is that our state's current public school science standards, adopted in 2009, are among the worst in the nation when it comes to addressing climate change. Just last year we partnered with NCSE to take a close look at how all the states cover climate science in their schools, and Texas scored an F.

The SBOE can make improvements as soon as this month when it meets to take a final vote on K-8 science standards. In September the board made several changes to those standards that required students to learn about the reality and cause of climate change as well as ways to mitigate and adapt to the problem. But two days later, the board moved to weaken those changes, following recommendations from representatives of the fossil fuel industry in Texas.

This is simply too critical of an issue to ignore the science. Read today’s letter to the SBOE by clicking the button below.

The students now in our schools, and the ones who will come afterward, did not create the climate crisis, but they will all feel its impacts long after they have gone on to college or enter the workforce. Humanity will need their help to tackle this problem. For the sake of all of us, we have to make sure millions of Texas students get the correct facts as soon as possible.

Please keep an eye on your email next week for info on how to testify at the SBOE when it takes up the science standards this month.

Let's #TeachTheTruth about climate change science in our classrooms.

In the fight,
