John,
City officials have secretly been considering allowing a private company to fly spy planes over St. Louis. These planes were developed for the Air Force in Iraq and can take pictures of the entire city every second to track the movement of any person or vehicle. This company says it will use this mass surveillance to solve crimes, but we know that the government always uses new surveillance technology to further violate the privacy of our residents, particularly the most vulnerable among us.
People shouldn’t be forced to give up their civil liberties just because they live, work, or seek healthcare in St. Louis. Not only is it wrong, but we know that more military equipment for local law enforcement does not keep us safe. Cori Bush experienced the horror of a militarized police force during the Ferguson uprising, and meanwhile, our current representative in the US Congress voted against an amendment to prevent military equipment from being given to police. Cori is committed to fighting against abusive police power and to address crime with community-based solutions that are proven effective.
Will you stand with Cori to protect our privacy and actually keep us safe?
